The CBDA was developed by Dr. Anne Laurie, Ph.D. in Child Studies (Concordia University), whose groundbreaking research shaped a more equitable way to understand how children learn. Her work bridges science and practice, focusing on culturally responsive assessment for diverse learners.

An advocate for language awareness beyond academia, Anne is also the author of children’s books about Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)—stories that help children, families, and educators better understand and talk about language challenges.

Today, Anne continues to champion the CBDA’s mission: helping educators see each child’s learning potential—clearly, compassionately, and early.
