Individual Language Assessments for Children
If you have concerns about your school-aged child's language development, learning, or communication, an individual assessment can help you better understand how your child uses and learns language, where they may be having difficulty, and what kinds of support help them learn best.
TRICOAST Education provides individual assessments in English and French for school-aged children in person in the Fredericton area or online from anywhere.
Using our research-validated Curriculum-Based Dynamic Assessment (CBDA), we assess your child's oral language and storytelling skills, language learning potential, and how they respond when provided with targeted teaching and support. Unlike an assessment that provides only a snapshot of what your child can do, CBDA helps us understand how your child learns language.
What will I receive?
Following the assessment, you will receive a detailed Child Report outlining your child's language strengths and needs, learning potential, response to support, and recommendations for next steps. You will also receive audio recordings of your child's stories and an opportunity to meet with us to discuss the results.
The report can also be shared with your child's speech-language pathologist, school team, psychologist, pediatrician, or other professionals to provide additional information about how your child learns language and the supports that may be helpful. This can help inform further assessment, intervention, classroom support, or conversations about your child's needs.
An individual assessment may be helpful if your child:

is having difficulty understanding or using language;

has difficulty telling or organizing stories;

has received low scores on standardized language testing;

speaks or is learning more than one language; or

would benefit from a better understanding of their language-learning strengths, needs, and response to support.
